AI is Technology made By Generations of Smart Humans Enabling Humans to Avoid becoming Boring by Eliminating Boring jobs
Music: New York State of Mind by Nasty Nas
A.I. is,
at its GPU FPGA ASIC core, a product of cumulative human ingenuity.
A.I. is also this 🐐:
Each generation been building on the last, making tools that extend our capabilities.
*We are like dwarves sitting on the shoulders of giants.
-Bernard of Chartres
AI enables humans with a promise to free us from repetitive, 💀-sucking tasks, letting us focus on our creativity.
You do you - it tells us
- leave the grunt work to me.
A.I. frees us to be interesting.
Technology can be a 🔫 but it can also most definitely serve as a liberator, not a replacer. It’s about augmentation, not obsolescence.
Of course some jobs and some people will suffer in the short-term but how might anyone argue that any kind of change is even possible with someone suffering short-term pain?!
So now that we agree that short-term pain can’t be avoided, then let’s agree to focus on the liberating dimensions of this inspirational moment in time - during which we are all alive - together.
Let’s make the most of it.
Together.
A.I. will create new jobs.
The people doing these jobs are already among us.
You there, reading this - may be one yourself.
But the kicker is …
that these people don’t work for anyone but themselves.
Why would they?
A.I. isn’t set-and-forget.
It needs data (our collective actions), oversight (ahem.. let me get back to you on that one), and constant tuning (DIY preferably).
*The visual representation of this concept also appears in medieval art, such as the stained glass windows of Chartres Cathedral, depicting smaller figures (the Evangelists) perched on the shoulders of larger ones (the Prophets), symbolizing the transmission and accumulation of knowledge across generations.
